Figuring out what to watch is an all too common problem that plagues us all, and one we aimed to solve with Luma.
Luma was more than just a movie and TV recommendation engine; It combined all of your streaming sources into a single place, let you fine tune and personalize your watching tastes, and even connect with friends to get you to watching your favorites faster than ever.
The audience
Who doesn’t love to watch a good movie or show? Most of us not only like to watch, but have a hard time trying to decide what to watch. Luma aimed to help those movie and showgoers who need help deciding not only what to watch, but also where and how to watch it. We wanted to help every watcher, from the casual show follower, to the die hard movie buff. Everyone should spend less time deciding, and more time enjoying the entertainment they crave.
The challenge
With so many titles and so many sources out there, it’s a daunting task to look through guide after guide, and then decide what’s best to watch. We also found the tools available to users to be lacking in the amount of control and preferences when it came to personalized recommendations. And how about choosing something for two or more people to watch together?
The solution
At Luma, we focused our problem down to the single problem of what to watch, and felt it should’t be driven by your sources or devices. The app would aggregate all your sources in one place, and factored in many different personalization inputs and algorithms, including recommendations from friends, to get you the best possible matches. You could even combine watching profiles to find movies and shows to watch together.
